HYDROVEN GARMENTS FAQ PAGE

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE NUMBER OF CHAMBERS?
Hydroven garments offer three combinations of chambers:

  • Single chamber
  • Three chamber
  • Twelve chamber (Hydroven 12 only)

The greater number of chambers usually relates to the greater control you have if the application requires segmental or sequential pressure.

Traditionally, oedema management uses a single chamber to deliver a constant pressure, whilst most other applications require segmental / sequential pressure profile – this can only be achieved from multi chamber products.

WHY DOES HYDROVEN 3 OFFER SINGLE CHAMBER GARMENTS AS WELL AS THREE CHAMBER GARMENTS?
The single chamber garments are used to target the Oedema treatment segment, these deliver uniform pressure and are low cost. Most other applications require a pressure gradient; this can only be achieved from multi chamber garments (e.g. 3 or more).
IF THE PATIENT HAS A LOW ABI, CAN YOU APPLY COMPRESSION THERAPY?
With regards to the management of VLUs, WUWHS recommend a cut off of 0.8. These patients (<0.8) should be assessed by a vascular specialist prior to the application of any kind of compression products.

Always refer to local clinical protoco

CAN YOU PURCHASE ADDITIONAL GARMENTS?
Yes, you can purchase as many garments as you like and at any time.
CAN THE GARMENTS BE RE-USED?
Although the garments are recognised as ‘single patient use’, they can be re- used. However, if they are going to be used between different patients, we recommend they are washed thoroughly in accordance with the cleaning instructions found in the IFU’s.
CAN I WASH THE GARMENTS IN A DOMESTIC WASHING MACHINE?
No, we don’t recommend placing the garments in a domestic washing machine.
DOES THE HYDROVEN 3 INSERT PROVIDE GRADUATED PRESSURE?
No, the H3 insert is a single piece construction therefore will only provide uniform pressure across the width and length of the insert.
DOES THE H12 INSERT PROVIDE GRADUATED PRESSURE?
Yes, all H12 inserts support 12 chambers so will continue the segmented pressure profile.
CAN THE GARMENTS BE RE-USED?
Yes, the garments can be re-used provided they are cleaned.
CAN THE GARMENTS BE REPAIRED?
It depends on the damage. The garments are very reliable and usually last the duration of any course of therapy.
CAN I USE A SINGLE CHAMBER GARMENT FOR TREATMENT OF LYMPHOEDEMA?
No, because of their construction, single chamber garments are not recommended for the management of Lymphoedema cases.
The garments do not deliver a pressure gradient, they have no control over the direction of fluid movement
WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED PRESSURE SETTING FOR MANAGING LYMPHOEDEMA?
The Lymphoedema Framework best practice recommends the following settings:

Treatment pressure of between 30 – 60mmHg, however, in palliative care a lower pressure of 20 to 30mmHg is recommended. Typical duration and frequency would be between 30 mins to 2 hours daily.

Your physiotherapist would be able to advise.

WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED TREATMENT TIMES FOR IPC PUMPS?
Unfortunately, there is no consensus for the treatment time.
Depending on the situation, a typical treatment time would be between 30 minutes and two hours (one hour twice a day) is generally recommended.

Your physiotherapist would be able to advise.
